Elastikon elastic tape is made of a high twist, cotton elastic cloth tape with a rubber based adhesive. It is best used where pressure dressings requiring elasticity are needed as after a mastectomy, Or can be used for support strapping, fractures, muscle injuries, knees, elbows, and shoulders.
1) The ankle should be prepped for taping. Taping can be done to the skin or an underwrap can be utilized.

2) Three superior anchors are used to provide a good base of attachment for the 3" ELASTIKON® Elastic Tape. The stirrups and horseshoes are applied in traditional fashion.
To finish your tape job, the first 3 inches of ELASTIKON® Elastic Tape are attached superiorly and anteriorly on the ankle. The first 1 inch is laid above the top of the tape and not secured with an anchor. The next 2 inches are anchored to the ankle with two consecutive anchor strips. The top 1 inch is then folded down and over the two anchor strips and secured with another anchor strip. This is important to provide a good base of support when tensioning the ELASTIKON® Elastic Tape. (Example A)

3) The length of ELASTIKON® Elastic Tape should be enough to go beyond the toes 2-3 inches when stretched lightly. The tape is then cut from the roll and split up the middle (along the red line of the tape) about half way up the ankle. The medial side is tensioned and then wrapped under the foot and around the lateral ankle, then over the anterior ankle. (Blue Arrow)

4) The lateral strip is tensioned and run under the foot, crossing the medial strip, then it is pulled across the medial ankle, locking the subtalar joint and limiting inversion. The ELASTIKON® Elastic Tape is then wrapped around the ankle and finished up on the dorsal side of the foot. (Red Arrow) This completes the "Heel lock".
5) The tape job may be completed with additional anchors to close up the tape job.
